Smokers Helpline Wales

Smokers Helpline Wales provides free and confidential advice to help young people and adults who want to give up smoking.  To speak to a member of the team for general advice on stopping smoking, an information pack and details on additional support services, you can call us on 0800 169 0 169 between 9am and 7pm, Monday to Friday (including bank holidays) and 10am and 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.  The service is closed on Christmas

Giving up smoking is hard, and almost everyone experiences setbacks along the way.  But it’s not the end of the world if you start smoking again - it’s a natural part of the process of turning from a smoker into a non-smoker. One in four adults in Wales is an ex-smoker, so it can be done!

The good news is that over 1000 people in the United Kingdom stop smoking – and stay stopped – every day!

And it’s worth doing.  As soon as you stop smoking, the risks of serious diseases such as lung cancer, heart disease and stroke start going down. You will also save money by stopping smoking.

We can post an information pack to you, which includes information on how to prepare to stop smoking, how to give up and how to stay stopped.

Stop Smoking Wales is a free, NHS service to help people quit smoking. When you decide to stop smoking you don't have to do it alone. We know that giving up smoking isn't easy. The service offers a friendly group approach that will help you to quit smoking and that provides support to help you stay stopped. You are four times more likely to quit with a support programme like Stop Smoking Wales than going if alone.

Weekly sessions are held across Wales in local and convenient venues so you can find a group at a time and place that is suitable for you. Our groups meet in:

local community centres

GP surgeries

community health clinics

community halls

workplace

Appointments are available Monday to Friday in the day and early evening. You can choose an appointment time that suits you.

When you make an appointment to attend a Stop Smoking Wales group support programme, you will be joining a group of other smokers who want to stop smoking just like you. Every group is led by a trained Advisor to support and encourage you through the programme. The support programme consists of an assessment session followed by six weekly behavioural support sessions.

To find out more about your nearest Stop Smoking Wales group support session, speak to one of our friendly team members for free on 0800 085 2219. Calls are answered between 9-5pm Monday to Friday. If calls are outside of these hours, you can leave your name, address and phone number and someone will call you back the next working day. You can also visit the Stop Smoking Wales website
