Out of Hours Pharmacy
For details of pharmacies open out of hours (after 5.30 pm Monday to Saturday and all day Sundays/Bank Holidays) click ‘Out of Hours Service’ under the ‘Filter by’ section and enter the postcode or town/city. Saturdays are classed as a normal working day, but please check opening times before travelling as some Pharmacies are only open for a few hours.
For patients who have run out of their prescribed medication, the out of hours filter will also show Pharmacies who offer ‘Emergency Medicine Supply Service
’, providing patients with an emergency supply (subject to certain conditions) free of charge when their GP practice is closed i.e. after 6.30pm Monday to Friday and on weekends/bank holidays. This service is only for patients who have an immediate need and cannot wait until their GP practice reopens. Patients will need to show evidence to the Pharmacist that they have previously been prescribed the medication e.g. empty packet / container with name label.
Please note that for patients who live in the Aneurin Bevan Health Board
area, this service is only available via the GP Out of Hours Service
.Medicines Usage Reviews.
If you take regular or repeat medication your pharmacist may be able to offer you a Medicines Usage Review. This is often known by its initials ‘MUR’. Through an MUR your pharmacist will ensure that you are getting the best possible benefits from your medicines. Please note some pharmacists cannot offer an MUR because they do not have space for a private consulting area.Smoking Cessation level 3 Pharmacies
The service allows patients to access free NHS support and Nicotine Replacement therapy for up to 12 weeks to support patients to have a successful, quit attempt, without the need for a prescription.NHS Flu Vaccines
If you are 18 and over and in an eligible group to receive your free NHS flu vaccine from the GP this year you may be able to visit a pharmacy to receive it.
Trained pharmacists will check that it is safe and appropriate for you to have a vaccination by asking you to fill in a questionnaire. Before travelling you should contact the pharmacy to ensure that you are in one of the groups who are able to have a flu jab (this may differ between pharmacies depending on the agreement they have with their local health board) and to ensure the pharmacist is able to offer you an appointment when you arrive.Border Regions
