Welsh Ambulance Service - Information and Links

The Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust (WAST) was established in 1998 and currently employs more than 2,500 staff across three regions covering North, Central and West and South East Wales.

The Trust provides ambulance services for both emergency and non-emergency patients across Wales through its Emergency Medical Service (EMS), which provides emergency, urgent and unscheduled care services, and the Patient Care Service (PCS), which provides non-emergency patient transport to and from hospitals, clinics and other locations of care. The Trust operates over 580 emergency and other ambulance vehicles and deals with over a quarter of a million emergency incidents a year.

In April 2007, NHS 111 Wales became part of the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust .

The Trust has introduced the Working Together for Success five-year modernisation programme. The three main objectives within Working Together for Success are:-

  • To achieve all the national quality standards
  • To provide the right service with the right care, in the right place, at the right time with the right skills
  • To provide high quality , planned patient care services which are valued by users.
