If you have a medical emergency, a critical or life threatening problem call 999.
Here are some examples of an emergency:
- Difficulty in breathing
- A suspected heart attack
- Heavy blood loss
- Serious injury
- Severe burns
If you are feeling unwell but the problem is not a medical emergency, call NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47. For patients' safety, all calls are recorded. Calls are charged at local rates. Calls cost a maximum of five pence per minute from a BT landline. The cost of calls from mobiles and other networks may vary. Your service provider may charge a minimum cost per call.

Calling NHS Direct Wales using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
NHS Direct Wales occasionally receives calls from VoIP/ Internet phones. VoIP / Internet phones enable people to make telephone calls over the Internet. Unfortunately, NHS Direct Wales are not currently able to call back to a VoIP / Internet phone. If you call using VoIP/ Internet phone please let us know as we may ask you for an alternative mobile or land line number as there are times that we may need to call you back.
