If you have a medical emergency, a critical or life threatening problem call 999.
Here are some examples of an emergency:
- Difficulty in breathing
- A suspected heart attack
- Heavy blood loss
- Serious injury
- Severe burns
If you are feeling unwell but the problem is not a medical emergency, call NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47 or 111 if available in your area. For patients' safety, all calls are recorded. Calls to 0845 46 47 from landlines and mobiles cost 2p per minute, this will be in addition to the telephone providers access charge. Calls to 111 are free of charge.

Calling NHS Direct Wales using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
NHS Direct Wales occasionally receives calls from VoIP/ Internet phones. VoIP / Internet phones enable people to make telephone calls over the Internet. Unfortunately, NHS Direct Wales are not currently able to call back to a VoIP / Internet phone. If you call using VoIP/ Internet phone please let us know as we may ask you for an alternative mobile or land line number as there are times that we may need to call you back.
