Before we begin.....

This dental symptom checker is only suitable for adults and children over 12 years of age living in Wales. The advice we give may be unsafe for a child under 12 years of age. If you are caring for a child under 12 years of age you think has toothache you should contact their dentist if they are registered with one or if they are not registered with a dentist you should contact NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47 for an assessment with a nurse over the telephone.

Some questions in the symptom checker may not seem relevant to your dental pain but they are there to make sure you don’t have more serious medical problems. Please read and answer all of the questions carefully as the advice you will be given is based on the answers you provide.

If you are using the symptom checker for someone else – that person needs to be with you.

Please note that this service is provided for people in Wales only. For health advice and information in other parts of the UK please visit NHS Direct England or NHS 24 (Scotland).

This information is used only by NHS Direct Wales to provide you with advice and information. It is not shared with other organisations, or stored or combined with any other medical records held by your GP or local NHS provider.
